Description
Explore the City Palace of Jaipur, a former administrative headquarters of the rulers of the erstwhile Jaipur State. Admire the seven interconnected courtyards, and visit the MSMS II Museum, which is home to 4 of these courtyards.
As a premier palace museum in India, the City Palace of Jaipur houses heritage buildings and artifacts of national importance, collected and commissioned over centuries by the Kachwaha rulers of Amber and Jaipur.
Start your tour at Pritam Niwas Chowk, which consists of four magnificently decorated gates or deories depicting 4 deities. Continue to Sarvato Bhadra or Diwan-e-Khas, which played host to a plethora of religious and cultural celebrations.
Don't miss the Gangajalis, two gigantic silver urns, when entering this courtyard. Next, visit Sabha Niwas or Diwan-e-Aam, a hall where the Maharaja would hear from his public and greet foreign dignitaries.
Head to Mubarak Mahal, built in 1902 as a guest house for foreign dignitaries. Today, it houses the textile collection. Continue to Sileh-Khana, a gallery that houses a vast and unparalleled collection of arms and armor.
Visit the Painting & Photography Gallery, a gallery dedicated to paintings, maps, and historic photographs. Finally, see the Rath-Khana, a special display of some of the most important royal transports spanning three centuries.
Intended for ceremonies, some of the objects in this gallery are still part of annual festivals of the city.
