Description
In the heart of Rajasthan, Bagru village is home to the Chhipa community, custodians of a craft that has flourished for over 300 years.
Here, block printing is not just an art—it is a living tradition passed from one generation to the next. On this unique experience, you will step into a family workshop and discover the rhythm and patience behind this celebrated technique.
This immersive experience not only introduces you to the technical craft of block printing and natural dyeing but also connects you with the living heritage of the Chhipa families who have preserved this art for over 300 years.
Bagru village (30km from Jaipur city center) is internationally recognized as a hub of authentic Rajasthani hand-block printing with natural colors, making it an important stop for textile lovers and cultural tourists.
You will begin by meeting a local artisan who will introduce you to the tools of the trade: intricately hand-carved wooden blocks, each etched with motifs inspired by nature, folklore, and geometry.
Learn about the history of Bagru block printing, how natural dyes are prepared from plants, minerals, and spices, and how different resist techniques such as mud printing and indigo dyeing give Bagru textiles their distinctive character.
With guidance, you will dip the blocks into color and place them carefully onto fabric, pressing firmly to leave your first impression. Slowly, your design will take shape—line by line, block by block—just as artisans have done for centuries.
At the end, you will create your own block-printed fabric using traditional techniques and natural dyes, a keepsake that carries the story of Bagru in every print.
